Business & Operations

JYCO does not simply analyse financial statements. It looks for the relationship between financial performance, operating behaviour, processes, people, assets, technology and capital requirements.

For owners and management teams whose numbers are telling them something is wrong, without saying what.

Most operating problems arrive dressed as something else: a margin decline that is really a scheduling problem, a cash squeeze that is really a stock policy, a growth stall that is really a management structure that stopped working at the last size. The work is forensic before it is prescriptive. We trace the financial result back through the operation to the behaviour, process or asset that produced it, and only then recommend.

This is the area where the firm's operating background matters most. The ten farm projects on the sectors pages were built and run, not reviewed, and the discipline of measuring an operation in its own units, labour hours, throughput, yield, uptime, cost per unit, is the same in a factory, a distribution business or a farm.

What we examine

Before recommending anything.

  • The chain from financial result to operating cause, traced with the operation's own records
  • Which constraint governs the business today, and which will govern it at the next size
  • What the organisation can absorb: procedures, people, systems and the gap between the three
  • Where technology earns its place on a cost line and where it is a capital purchase looking for a reason

Describe the situation. The first conversation is about that, not about a service.
