Principals & Family Offices

An independent strategic resource for the decisions that do not fit one adviser.

For principals, business owning families and family offices dealing with operating businesses, investments, new ventures, transactions and complex business decisions.

Family offices and principals usually have access to excellent specialists across accounting, legal, tax, banking, investment management and other disciplines. The challenge is rarely access to expertise. It is connecting the expertise into a coherent decision, particularly where an operating business sits at the centre of it.

JYCO serves as an independent strategic resource in those situations: helping the principal understand the operating and commercial realities behind a decision, framing the question the specialists each need to answer, and coordinating the broader picture where that is wanted. We work alongside existing professional advisers where their expertise is required, and we do not replace lawyers, accountants, tax advisers, investment managers or other regulated professionals.

The work is discreet by default. Most engagements are with one principal or one family, on one situation, and are not disclosed.

Situations we are typically brought into
  • An operating business in the family's portfolio that is underperforming, and nobody is sure why
  • A decision to acquire, sell, merge or restructure a private company
  • A new venture or technology the family is considering backing or building
  • A capital requirement that may really be an operating or structural question
  • A cross border expansion or investment where the operating model, the structure and the local partner all have to be settled together
  • Succession or ownership questions that carry operating consequences

You do not bring in JYCO because you need another specialist. You bring in JYCO when the situation is important, complicated, and crosses more than one discipline.

A confidential first conversation, about the situation.
