Built to be handed over, so the procedures mattered as much as the plants.
Taitung, Taiwan. Hydroponic system, 5,000 square metres.
Situation Source record
Built, operated and transferred a hydroponic pharmaceutical crop system to the company for its internal expansion into supplements.
Challenge
Build and run a hydroponic pharmaceutical crop operation, then hand it over intact to a company that had never run one.
What JYCO examined
An operating model that had to survive a handover: water and nutrient management for hydroponic pharmaceutical crops, and the procedures that let the company take over and expand into supplements.
Issues identified
Repeatability under handover. Water and nutrient management for a specialty crop had to be documented so completely that a company new to hydroponics could take it over and expand. Variables in play: water, nutrients, crop, operations.
Approach
Build for the transfer. If the procedures survive the supplier leaving, the next site can be run by someone else, and the deployment is repeatable.
